A channel for showcasing kayaking around the island of Ireland. To start, we wanted to feature our founders story of Jon Hynes and Sean Cahill who circumnavigated Ireland in summer of 2015. However this channel will grow to feature other kayakers attempts at this challenge as well as some tips for the trip itself.
Reel Paddling Film Festival Best Sea Kayak Film 2017 - Thank You
We are delighted to announce that we have just won Best Sea Kayak Film of the year at the Reel Paddling Film Festival 2017!
In Summer 2015, Jon Hynes & Sean Cahill set off to "Sea Kayak Around Ireland". An expedition that was the culmination of a dream become a reality. Over our 34 days at Sea we encountered an adventure never to be forgotten.
When we returned from the trip armed with hundreds of hours of footage we began the job of editing the footage into a 45 minute documentary with Cian Walsh of www.mux.ie and the resulting video Sea Kayak Around Ireland was put on UA-cam for the kayaking world to access and enjoy. Since then it has amassed over 58k views. In doing so it has become a source of great enjoyment and inspiration to many.
Last Autumn it was suggested to Jon Hynes & Cian Walsh that we enter Sea Kayak Around Ireland into the Reel Paddle Film Festival in Canada which is hosted by a major Paddlesports company called Rapid media. We did so, having made some minor adjustments to make a version suitable for their entry criteria.
You can watch a 1 minute trailer here.
Visit the Reel Paddling Film Festival website here.
Well last Thursday night the Premiere was held in Toronto and a final shortlist of 18 films made it to the premiere night. This was the first time in the 10 years of the competition that there had been an Irish entry make it to the final shortlist.
And of the 8 categories we are delighted to report that we won the Best Sea Kayak Film category overall!
For us, as a no budget, passion project, we are just thrilled. We set out, when making this film to create a legacy from our trip that would serve to encourage / inspire people to go out and chase their adventure dreams. The video has done that many times already but now with this very prestigious accolade, the video will tour over 120 cities worldwide as the Reel Paddle Film Festival goes on tour and it will be attended by Kayakers worldwide.
So I guess we just wanted to let you all know and to say a very big thank you again for your faith and support of both myself, Jon Hynes and Sean.
Finally, we have some interesting news with a new investment in Jon's Sea Kayak tour business here in, Kinsale, Cork, Ireland with a busy season ahead for:

Be sure to look us up for a tour if you are ever in Kinsale.
Over & out.

Hi, looking your splendit video for the xxx time and not getting rid of it! I had the opportunity to see you schowing it and telling from your trip in Bonn, Germany (Postsportverein). I fell in love with the Taran and now I have one, paddeling in french Brittany. Thank you very much for your inspiration!
Thank you so much for showing us your struggle ... and happiness ... on the sea around Ireland.... what a wonderful challenge..
What an Epic journey!!! Congrats!!!
Cool! Now do the Bass Strait in Australia 💀
A great achievement since Ireland's coast is probably as windy and as wavy and challenging as any.
Thank you and seems like a long time ago now. 😀
@@seakayakaroundireland Still relevant for great inspiration and lessons☝

I absolutely love it
Amazing, and it's my turn this year in my big tough inflatable. I'm taking my time, a whole summer of it. It's going to be a true adventure if this video is anything to go by.
11:19 what is the name of that cave/water passage!?
Hi Dirty. That's the Old Head of Kinsale. There are a number of passages under the headland that are navigable at certain tides if a competent kayaker.
6 years old today and still attracting lots of views and positive feedback. Thank you all.

I’m jealous that was amazing. Just bought my first kayak this year. Enjoying some good times in Iowa paddling on a local lake. Hoping to branch out into some river adventures and who knows. Best wishes from an ex-pat in the Midwest.
Thank you so much for posting this epic adventure. You are brave boys. I sailed a 17 foot open boat from Lands End to Lowestoft camping on the beach at night. Your trip brought back so many memories and feelings.
I am your fan
What kayaks are they paddling?
They are Rockpool Tarans
Brilliant! Thanks for bringing us along.
Excellent work. Top video. Lovely scenic adventure. Bravo.
One of the best long-form kayaking videos on UA-cam. Cheers lads!

Congratulations, guys! Amazing!!
What a great watch , thanks for sharing such a wonderful looking trip
How much experience do you recon someone must have to do the same ?
Wow Amazing to stumble across this award winning vid 43 years after we actually did this trip. Yes. I was part of the Bede College ,Durham trio that also went round in 1978. But we were broke students of Outdoor Ed so did not publicise it much. Did do the Maelstrom/Lofoten Islands in Norway the next year . And graduated at a time when Maggi Thatcher was closing all the centres to save money . Sam Cooke and Pete Davies from the Norkapp Expedition were friends and an inspiration. And I eventually I did get THE job running an OE dept/centre but it was for a big international school. And did subsequently SAIL round the world on a 40ft catamaran. But thats another story . Gopro had not been invented . ha ha. .
Exquisite 💕
